Peter Strummer is the Founder and Artistic Director of Rose Rock Opera Institute, an elite training program for emerging young artists in Tulsa, Oklahoma. RROI is a highly intensive yet nurturing environment for serious singers. The priority is to provide affordable training and multiple performance opportunities for all artists.

We are seeking singers for the 2019-2020 Tulsa Opera Young Artist Program.

• One mezzo, one tenor, and one baritone will be contracted September 15 – October 27, 2019.

• One soprano, one tenor, and one baritone will be contracted January 19 – March 1, 2020.

• One soprano, one tenor, and one baritone will be contracted March 22-May 3, 2020.

• In addition to mainstage, opportunities include frequent coachings, voice lessons, master classes with visiting artists, and outreach performances.

Audition repertoire requirements:

• Five arias showcasing at least three languages including English.

• Must include one American aria.

Peter Strummer holds affiliations with the University of Tulsa, University of Texas, Austin, University of Georgia State, University of Manitoba, and McGill University. He presents master classes and workshops at these universities, and at other North American and European venues.

Beyond his legacy on the stage, Strummer strives to make a difference by passing on his craft, knowledge, and experience to the next generation. His selective roster of students include singers from the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Dresden Oper, Opera Geneve, Savolinna Opera Festival, Finland, Dallas Opera, Tulsa Opera, Chattauqua Summer Opera Festival, Central City Opera, Sarasota Opera, Saratoga Opera, Portland Opera, Carnegie Hall, as well as other venues. In addition to his private studio, Peter was artistic director of the Land of Enchantment Opera Institute, for 10 years, until 2016. Two years ago, Peter founded Rose Rock Opera Institute in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Peter is also a vocal and operatic coach for Tulsa Opera’s Young Artist Program. He is currently accepting select singers into his private studio.
